Partner types give you an extra layer of classification for your partners beyond what programs alone provide. Before adding any types, it’s worth understanding how they differ from programs — the two concepts work together but serve distinct purposes.

Partner types vs. partner programs

A partner program defines the commercial and operational framework a group of partners operates within — the go-to-market motion, tiers, benefits, rewards, and portal experience. A partner type is a finer label you attach to a partner within a program to describe what kind of business they are. For example, you might have a single Referral Partner Program that contains partners of three different types:
  • Agency — marketing agencies that refer clients
  • Consultant — independent consultants who advise customers
  • System Integrator — technical firms that implement solutions
All three live under the same program and share its rules and rewards. The type label simply helps you filter, report on, and communicate with each subset separately.
Partner types are entirely optional. If all the partners in a given program are the same kind of business, you don’t need to create any types for that program.

When to use partner types

Use partner types when you need to:
  • Distinguish between different business models within one program (e.g., agencies vs. freelancers)
  • Filter partner lists or reports by a more specific category
  • Tailor communication or workflows to a particular kind of partner inside a broader program
Do not create separate programs just to represent different kinds of partners — that’s what types are for.

Manage partner types in Account Settings

Partner types are global across your account, not specific to one program. You manage them from Account Settings.
1

Open Account Settings

Click the menu in the top-right corner of Kiflo and go to Account Settings.
2

Navigate to Partner settings

In the left-hand menu, click Partner settings.
3

Open the partner type configurator

Click the Configure button next to the partner types section. You will see the current list of partner types. Kiflo ships with a set of predefined types, but you can change them to match your ecosystem.
4

Make your changes

From this screen you can:
  • Add a new partner type by entering a name and confirming
  • Rename an existing type by clicking its name
  • Remove a type you no longer need
  • Re-order types by dragging them into the preferred sequence
5

Save

Click Save to apply all changes. The updated list of types will be available immediately when creating or editing partners.
Removing a partner type that is already assigned to partners does not delete those partners — it simply removes the type label from them. Review assignments before deleting a type you’ve been using.
